The council will consider issues like automation, energy transition and supporting skilled workers and sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m honoured to take on this important role on behalf of all IAM members in Canada,\u201d said Chartrand. \u201cI look forward to helping us chart a stable and prosperous path into the future, for Canada and for Canadian workers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cpac.ca\/episode?id=c9f1c1ef-f568-4e24-a484-fff1b4732722\">WATCH: Federal Ministers Launch Union-Led Advisory Panel<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chartrand has been crucial in pushing for the Canadian government to seek direction from workers and unions as the labour terrain changes with technology and automation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cUnions are the voices of workers,\u201d said Chartrand. \u201cThe IAM in Canada has been listening to workers and carrying their message as workplaces continue to change.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/iamaw.ca\/downloads\/automation-report-downloads\/\">IAM published a report on the impact of artificial intelligence<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;and automation on the workforce in 2021 titled \u201cCharting Change: Workers\u2019 Voices in an Automated World\u201d that focuses on AI technology and its impact on Canadian jobs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/actionnetwork.org\/petitions\/workers-deserve-a-seat-on-canadas-ai-advisory-council\">In 2022, the IAM petitioned the Canadian government<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;to give workers a seat on its Artificial Intelligence Advisory Council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe know the shift will require significant investments, in vocational, education and training labour adjustment, as well as a new job creation,\u201d said Canadian Labour Congress President Bea Bruske. \u201cCanada\u2019s unions are ready to do the work and we\u2019re ready to work with government to make sure that no worker across the country is left behind.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The union advisory table will share its findings and recommendations with the Canadian government in the latter part of 2024.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0c\/o frank\u00a0\u00a08 December, 2023 IAM Canadian General Vice-President David Chartrand has been installed as a member of a newly-launched advisory board to advise the Canadian government on labour issues.
