{"id":704,"date":"2024-09-05T15:19:55","date_gmt":"2024-09-05T22:19:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/iamdistrict250.ca\/?p=704"},"modified":"2024-09-05T15:19:58","modified_gmt":"2024-09-05T22:19:58","slug":"ending-violence-in-our-workplaces-and-beyond-iam-41st-convention-welcomes-be-more-than-a-bystander-program-leader","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iamdistrict250.ca\/?p=704","title":{"rendered":"Ending Violence in Our Workplaces and Beyond: IAM 41st Convention Welcomes \u2018Be More Than a Bystander\u2019 Program Leader"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class='booster-block booster-read-block'><\/div>\n<p>The IAM Grand Lodge Convention welcomed Ashley Humphrys, Manager of&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/endingviolence.org\/\">Social Enterprises for the Ending Violence Association of British Columbia&nbsp;<\/a><\/strong>to the stage for an inspiring message about a program that teaches people about intervening safely to prevent and mitigate violence against women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Watch The Be More Than A Bystander Video Here: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>      <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/1006205917\"><strong>https:\/\/vimeo.com\/1006205917<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Humphrys leads the \u201cBe More Than a Bystander\u201d program, an unparalleled training that has been adopted by large organizations and companies to raise awareness and propel positive action to end violence against women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been one of the most successful programs that I\u2019ve ever seen,\u201d said Humphrys, whose professional background is a mixture in both the non-profit and the oil and gas industries, giving her a unique perspective on workplace harassment and bullying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The program began with men delivering the training to other men, an important element that sets it apart from others. The objective of \u201cBe More Than a Bystander\u201d is to help men understand the impact of gendered violence in the workplace and the role they can have in speaking up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This one-of-a-kind program tactfully addresses sensitive topics to help participants feel empowered to navigate uncomfortable and possibly harmful situations safely and productively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSuccess is driven by positive culture,\u201d said Humphrys. \u201cThe IAM is the first American union to take on this program. That sets a very impressive precedent for your country.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In January 2023, the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.goiam.org\/news\/be-more-than-a-bystander-iam-adopts-training-to-end-workplace-violence-and-harassment\/\"><strong>IAM became the first labor group in the United States to be trained in the Be More Than a Bystander program<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;when 19 male IAM staff members attended a three-day train-the-trainer course at the William W.
